Inclusive Conversations in Donation: Navigating Disabilities and Language Barriers

This course will provide Donation Advocates with essential strategies to navigate complex donation conversations involving disabilities, language barriers, and diverse communication needs. Participants will gain actionable insights into building trust, ensuring understanding, and adapting communication approaches to support families with clarity and compassion.

Through engaging lessons, interactive exercises, and expert guidance, you will develop a deeper understanding of how communication, cultural awareness, and emotional intelligence intersect in high-stakes family conversations, and what it means to communicate inclusively in the context of donation advocacy.

Our goal is to help each donation advocate strengthen their ability to connect, communicate, and respond effectively in complex situations—supporting both meaningful donation outcomes and the unique needs of every family they serve.

Meet the invited speakers

Jason grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he graduated High School and College, after which he attended Seminary at Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, KY receiving a Master of Divinity degree. As an ordained minister he served congregations in Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. He left active parish ministry in 2017 and worked as a retail manager until starting his current position as a Family Support Coordinator with Lifenet Health about 2 years ago. His background with the Special Needs population stems from having an older brother with Special Needs. During his time in ministry he worked with congregations to develop worship and community experiences that helped congregations become more inclusive of those with Special Needs in church life and worship.

Maria has been with Donor Alliance in Colorado for 2 plus years and co-manages the Donor and Family Coordinators for Organs. She took a leap of faith and relocated from Florida after 32 years with LifeLink Foundation.Within those 32 years with LL she was able to provide leadership to HD, Tissue Requestors, Organ Requestors and ME/FH liaisons. She helped build LifeLink of Puerto in 1994 and further develop relationships with hospital partners, ME, FH, and the community. Maria was born in Cuba, raised in both Boston and Miami cities and lived in Tampa, Florida prior to moving to Denver, Colorado. Her mission is to “be kind, slow down, practice active listening and speak last to hear everyone first.”
